64 year old Diana Nyad completed her swim from Cuba to Florida today in 53 hours. She has attempted the swim 5 times since 1978.
Classroom Use:
Diana Nyad's story could be used in a number of ways in the classroom. I have listed a few below:
- Communicate with Diana congratulating her on her swim (Find the contact details here: http://www.diananyad.com/).
- Create a news report about the event or a mock interview of Diana. Use Step Inside or The Circle of Viewpoints Visible Thinking Routines to have students explore her perspective prior to the interview.
- Analyse Diana's story using the Habits of Mind and work out what Habits helped her achieve her success. http://www.habitsofmind.org/
- Math connections: work out Diana's average speed or the distance over land, Diana swam, from your school.
