One App for That- Explain Everything Only!

Screen Shot from Killer Start Ups
Warning a bog full of quality apps lies ahead!

I saw this quote on Killer Start Ups and wished I had been given similar advice when I got my devices.

While the large number of iOS apps in the apps store seems a positive it is actually often a stumbling block that can trip you up and bog you down.

Check out what social media recommends!!!

Finding apps to use in your class can be aided by looking through social media, especially educational technology blogs. Apps In Education iPad Apps for School  and Educational Technology and Mobile Learning are a few of my favourite places to look for iOS apps. However, I still am often looking for an app to do a specific task and get bogged down exploring all the possible options in the App Store.

The perfect example for this is the interactive whiteboard recording/video tutorial creation type apps.  These apps are similar to the technology made famous by Salman Khan of Khan Academy. These are excellent for teachers to make video tutorials for their classrooms. However, there are an endless amount of interactive whiteboard (IWB) type apps and it is easy to waste time trying to find the one right for you.

I have tried a heap of these IWB type apps and recommend that you only need to purchase Explain Everything.

Why I recommend Explain Everything?

No Sign Ups and Easy Sharing
The main reason that I recommend Explain Everything is because it does not require you to sign up or for your students to sign in to view the videos you create. Some of the other apps like Educreations and ShowMe do require this which can be a little bit annoying and problematic.

Type and Scribble
There are other apps that don't require's signing in such as DoodleCast Pro. However, these apps do not feature both the ability to sketch or draw with your finger, or stylus, and also the ability to type. I prefer having the option of sketching and typing which Explain Everything offers.

Best Pointer
Another feature of explain everything that I prefer, when compared to other apps, is the pointer feature. The little red shiny dot that Explain Everything uses as its pointer is much more engaging and attention grabbing than the simple mouse pointers which are used in other interactive whiteboard apps.

It ain't Perfect
I have  a few criticisms of  Explain Everything:

  • Rendering can be a little bit dodgy.
  • Importing PowerPoint documents, or Keynote documents, is let down by the rendering of these documents. Sometimes the rendering cuts off sections of slides and makes the video look a little bit blurry.
At a cost of $2.99 Explain Everything is a must have app for all educators, students and classrooms. Make video tutorials for your classes and have your students create video tutorials to teach their peers and demonstrate their knowledge.
